The Dependents are a musical group of teenagers from Upstate New York who play alternative rock and soul with a jazzy feel. The band was started by guitarist Christian Arndt and his sister, vocalist and piano player Jocelyn and now includes Evan Searles on drums and Valerie Hoffman on bass. The Dependents sound is characterized by highly technical instrumentals, classic rhythms and powerful, sweeping vocals. These young musicians not only play for hire, but also for many worthy charities. Since their debut in July of 2010 at a local 4th of July celebration, the band has rapidly gained popularity as more and more people hear their mature and original sound. Over the past year they’ve played in more than twenty cities and towns in central New York and they even have a few originals on the air and online with several alternative rock stations. Their first album, “Dry Cereal”, debuted on alternative station WEXT of Saratoga/Albany in May of this year to raving reviews. These talented and ambitious musicians love to play for the crowd and see it as their goal to perform for an ever-growing audience. The artists of The Dependents have worked very hard to gain the regional success they now enjoy and know that with commitment to each other and to their craft, the world will soon take notice of their amazing sound.
